What is Hexbound?

Hexbound is a retro-first-person shooter in which players should fight through 60 levels full of action, terrifying monsters, tempting secrets, and powerful bosses. All levels are designed around fast-paced arena combat, and players are incentivized to keep moving and search every nook and cranny for loot.

Inspired by the classic 90s shooters, the game is enriched with pixel art visuals, turn-based on a grid movement, and satisfying weapon feedback. At the same time it adds RPG features, so the players can customize their character and have a different experience every time they play.

Gameplay and Progression

At the heart of Hexbound’s gameplay are a series of levels filled with enemies to kill, gold to pick up, secret doorways to find, and an exit to reach. Outside of missions, players head back to a workshop hub to spend earned experience and Upgrade Points on upgrades for their character.

Your build is defined by four basic stats:

• Strength does more damage in close combat.
• Life boosts maximum health.
• Spirit increases mana pool for casting spells.
• Capacity increases the maximum amount of rounds of ammo that can be stored.

Upon reaching important milestones in these stats, passive perks will be unlocked, which offer benefits such as more health, more ammo drops, and more powerful melee attacks.

Weapon progression is just as rewarding. Guns can develop into specialized versions, which means you can customize your armory to suit different types of combat. With guns, magic spells also provide tactical choices from freezing foes to regenerating ammo in difficult encounters.

Tips to Help You Win the Battle

In order to win in Hexbound, you need to move, manage your resources wisely and explore the game. Strafing is crucial since standing still makes you vulnerable to enemy shots. Attracting the enemy to a narrow hallway is another good tactic that helps to get rid of the danger of having enemies in large numbers while performing the piercing attack efficiently.

Also, it is important to save all the health packs and ammunition until you need them. If you skip any pickups on the way, then you will have extra supplies in case a battle goes wrong.

As far as exploration is concerned, it is equally important as the battle itself. Upgrades are scattered around the cracks in the wall, unusual textures, or suspicious spots. They allow you to make your weapon better when you get to the latter stages of the game.

Finally, do not underestimate your basic equipment. Dagger is great in attacking the single target while magic staff does well against multiple enemies.
